What is this?
This website serves as a rules reference and character archive for my home campaign! If you’re reading this, you know who I am :)
I know you’ve got some experience playing Fifth Edition D&D, but you haven’t done any “old school” dungeon crawling yet. That’s perfectly alright!
Setting expectations:
- The rules are different, but simple. I will guide you the whole way, so don’t worry about learning them.
- This game is about seeking fortune and fame in a dungeon, and your character either wants or needs to be there. Each session begins at the dungeon entrance and ends when you return to town with a loot haul (or you die).
- Characters start as a blank slate and can be made in five minutes. They grow naturally the longer you keep them alive.
- There is no pre-written story, and you can die if you’re not careful. It’s a deep, dark dungeon… Weigh your options carefully, always.
- You can (and probably will) have multiple characters. Instead of levels, your characters improve by testing their skills in high-pressure situations.
- You can buy land, hire specialists, recruit mercenaries, etc. Whatever you want to do, go for it!
The main thing to remember is that the rules of the game are here to serve us and to help facilitate us in having fun. As a player, you can often safely forget about the rules and simply interact with what’s happening in the game.
Lean in to this. You’re going to find out who your character is through play. They’ll reveal themselves to you as you explore the dungeon and interact with the other characters in the game. It may feel strange to go into a dungeon not knowing exactly why you’re there or who this person you’re shepherding is, but the answers that arrive organically through your adventures will surprise and delight you.
