Player Advice
"Roleplaying" really boils down to making good decisions. Everything you do–exploration, investigation, social interaction, combat, logistics, etc.–relies on your ability to think about what's happening and make an informed decision. This hobby becomes immersive and fantastical when you are able to suspend your disbelief and engage enthusiastically with the fiction we're all creating at the table.
New players tend to start by making decisions on behalf of their characters, as though they are pawns on a chess board. Soon after, players graduate to making decisions as their characters, based on what they believe the character the character would do, as well as being able to justify their characters' actions both in and out of the game. Everything else–immersion, story, tension, drama–flows naturally from your ability to make good decisions.
